Read 2 Me App Reviews

Right now the app can only import txt files that are posted on the web. Using your own files is not an easy process. I am using 3.0 beta and if there was a place where you could paste your own text that would be great. Or a way p import some other way. The voices are great.

The app continually shuts down and I cant get it to read or download the book I want.

Ok, I was utterly excited when I saw this. Seems greeat at first and comes with ready installed books, however to import your own texts (articles/email etc) you need to have your own website...And upload of there first. Then I think Id rather use ghostreader on my mac which takes any file any size and makes an mp3 file in less than a minute. Hoping for some nice updates here:-)

Unable to upload custom text files. Spent several hours with no luck after following examples as exactly written in FAQ section of company webpage. Tried to use Notepad (Windows) and TextEdit (Mac). Only files which could be uploaded were from the Project Gutenberg website.

Very promising program, but current implementation needs work. The built-in browser is extremely slow, says "cant connect to the internet" even when connection is available, and in the end I have been unable to use it to get my own text into the program, after much trying. Need to allow file transfer methods used by other programs ( wi-fi, like many programs, and/or USB, like Good Reader). Need to allow setting the speed of the voice that reads the text. In short, great concept, the built-in texts read pretty well, but needs significant work before becoming generally useful.

It works pretty well. You have to load US-ASCII from Gutenberg, not UTF-8. you can get your own files, but you have to make your own web page with links to the .txt files and then it will get them. It will download files in the "wrong" text format but it wont read them. So, if you get a file and it wont read it, it is probably the wrong format.

This is potenial a great app but suffers from a fatal flaw in its current form (ver. 1). The reader shuts off when the Ipod goes into sleep mode. It appears that the Ipod does not recognize that it is running. Thus, if you have the auto-lock set for 1 minute the reader shuts down in 1 minute and will start again only when the Ipod is turned back on manually. Programs author did not respond to request for help.

1) Needs a volume control, I had to go to iTumes to adjust the volume. 2) Pronounces underscores "_" 3) Needs a way to jump to a specific place in the text that you dont have a bookmarked. 4) Stops reading if the screen go to sleep mode. The British female voice is great when reading Jane Austen.

I am an assistive technology coordinator working with learning disabled youth. I really wanted this to have a copy and paste option from anywhere. So when they are in an instructional app and they find themselves unable to read it they could select it, copy and then paste into the app. I dont think this should be too hard of a feature to add. When they do it will be one of my favorite and Ill re-rate it with 5 plus stars.

Do not be fooled by the awesome voices. The author did not make them. This app uses a voice synthesis that the author has put into a totally buggy, and poorly usable app. It has the poorest user interface which makes it impossible to use for a non-technical user. I litterally have to put the files up on a webserver, browse to them in a browser with no bookmarking that is slow and often crashs the app. Then you have to break any files up which means that the socalled easy to import feature with Gutenberg.org wont work for many books that are not broken up on Gutenbergs site. The extent of integration with gutenberg is to make it the home page on the browser. Then, even for tech-head like me who can get past the lame obstacles that the terrible user interface presents, the killer is that auto-lock stops the voice. After 3.0 firmware even a plugged in iPhone/iPod will autolock, so you have keep unlocking to keep listening. This is a development flaw on the part of the Author not the iPhone OS, since a talented programmer could have gotten around autolocking issues like other apps have. I could write a dissertation on terrible usability on this app alone. It should have: ability to jump to text without bookmarks, FTP or WebDAV file upload from your computer, ability to run while locked, and a general overhaul of the apps appearance. I am a user experience specialist. Trust me when I tell you that you will waste your money buying this app since its fatal flaws make impossible to use. The worst thing about it is that author does not respond to complaints and seems to have abandoned the app and left it on the store to pad his pockets. DO NOT ENRICH THIS HACK DEVELOPER BY BUYING THIS APP!

I got the app when it was still fairly buggy and worked around the problems mentioned by other reviewers by turning off autolock. Now this and other problems have been solved and turned read 2 me into a really nice program. In version 1 the reading speed was a bit on the fast side. It also spelled out dashes, underscores and other junk. Not anymore. You can tell the readers, who sound quite good and natural, to go as slow or as fast as you want in v 2. The program now imports from google docs, which makes inputting your own text quite easy. I found "the little prince" on the Internet and now Im enjoying it on my commute back from work. Next Im going to input some management books ;-) Take the plunge!

This is the most expensive app, yet works the least amount of time, out of all the apps I have. I had it working when I first installed it. Then the app would not open at all. I wrote to the app support but they ignored me. I finally got it to work again by taking the app off iPod and re-installing it. In the last week I have had to take the app off iPod and re-install it three times because it continues to not want to open. Approximately 5 times in the middle of listening to the document it crashes, if I am lucky to get back into the app, it starts all over from the beginning with no fast forward option so I have to listen to it all over again. The bookmarks, which is suppose to mark you last location, if you are lucky to place one before the app crashes, it NEVER works stating "no bookmarks exist", so every time you go back to the doc you were listening to (with or without crashing) you have to start all over. In addition, a lot of times you try to place a bookmark, it tells you one already exists even if you have not placed a single one in the document. Nothing in this entire expensive app works consistantly. The programmers need to lower the price until the app works.

I just bought this app and all it does is crash. I havent been able to use it yet. Please fix the problem.

I had high hopes for this app, but its just not practical to use at this point. The app crashes with frequent regularity. I suspect that there is some poorly written code in here thats causing memory issues, because it seems that if you try to listen to anything that takes more than 5 minutes for the app to read, the voice will begin to stutter and the app will crash or freeze up. When that happens, the app will loss your place in the text and start you over from wherever you began before. It stops reading if your devices screen locks, and theres no apparent way to correct pronunciation... And unfortunately, there are quite a few pronunciation problems. I like the ability to pull your own texts in and save them, but until it can make it through my 45 minute commute without crashing, its useless to me.

I had bought 4 different applications looking for one that read to you and the most expensive were this one and another that was 6.99! And neither worked. I was really looking forward to having my book being read to me and once I bought this I found out I couldnt pick the book I wanted I was dissapointed.

Kind of pricy for a product that needs a good bit of QA testing. Still it does what it says. It reads to you. I like the fact that you can read from your own google doc. PLEASE FIX: I which is read Ee when preceded by a quote. Also, the way it jumps after reading a paragraph is bothersome. Still so far it works as promised.

The application doesnt work anymore,the "system requirement" section have provide fake information. This app can not work in OS 3.1.3s later version.I have to lower my rating from 4 to 1. I really like this REAED2ME application and I have use it for a long time. The sad thing its doesnt work with OS 4.1.I waiting and waiting, but no one come to solve the bug and update this application. It doest work at all at the moment, will crash when u enter it. Please update this app.Its a great application and we dont want to lost it. Its not a useable application at the moment.

For some reason when I quit the application while in one of the screens, I think its the book reading mode, or perhaps its the paste mode for a new import. Read2Me will suddenly crash and then it WILL NOT relaunch, not after a force quit from the multitask bar (IOS 4), not after a total shutdown and cold boot of the iPhone 4. Not ever again. The only way to get Read2Me to start up is to delete it from the device. Restart the device, and then to repurchase/download the app (for free) and install it. I have emailed the author and have gotten NO reply in regards to this after 1 month. Should you buy this app? Yes, because nobody else can match or exceed its value, and because the voices rock. Should you really pester the developer? YOU BET! The developer wont listen until we get their attention, and clearly sending emails to him/her is not nearly enough.

Total, unequivocal waste of money. I thought, since the bad reviews were all old, they must have fixed the problems by now. I was wrong. This app is literally worthless. It crashes within seconds of trying to load any document. Does Not Work At All. Save your money and try something else.

It worked for a minute and now when I tap the icon it keeps kicking me out. I want my money back!
